Mayor of Indianapolis recognizes Scout & Zoe’s achievements as a homegrown business making pets happy one dog at a time

INDIANAPOLIS – What a difference a year makes. Just 12 months ago, Scout & Zoe’s Natural Antler Dog Chews were nothing more than an idea – an idea based on two very happy pets who had just tried antler chews for the first time, but an idea nevertheless.

Since then, Indiana-based Scout & Zoe’s has expanded from a local startup to a product claiming a national footprint and a global reach. For its achievements, Indianapolis Mayor Gregory A. Ballard has proclaimed Wednesday, March 23, 2011, as Scout & Zoe’s Day, with ceremonies planned for 12:00 noon at Three Dog Bakery, 844 Broad Ripple Ave., in Indianapolis.

“It is just an absolute thrill to be recognized by the city and the mayor for our success in putting such a great product on the market,” says Cindy Dunston Quirk, owner and developer of Scout & Zoe’s chews. “This whole thing started with really just one goal in mind, and that was to provide a better, healthier alternative to traditional chews that dogs would truly enjoy.”

In his proclamation, Mayor Ballard commends Scout & Zoe’s for its quick success and for setting an example for others in starting a business in tough economic times.

“Cindy deserves a lot of credit for having faith in an idea, and for having the confidence to move forward with a new business plan at a time when others might be waiting for economic news to improve,” Ballard says.

“Scout & Zoe’s chews appeal to those who want to see products that are not only healthier but also environmentally friendly. Her success says a lot about what opportunities exist for those who are able to tap into the needs of consumers – both dogs and people – and develop the new ideas they are looking for. We’re proud to recognize Scout & Zoe’s as a homegrown success story.”

About Scout & Zoe’s: Scout & Zoe’s Natural Antler Dog Chews are 100 percent natural elk antlers, gathered only after they’ve been shed naturally as part of the elk’s life cycle.

Antler chews are the right choice for the 15 to 20 percent of dogs who suffer from allergies to beef, chicken or have other digestive issues. They’re a safer choice for any dog because antler chews won’t splinter like bones. Owners like them because they don’t wind up in a gooey mess like rawhide and best of all they take away the need for pets to chew on furniture, shoes and other things around the house.

Scout & Zoe’s are superior to other chews in helping dogs maintain clean, healthy teeth and contain trace minerals such as calcium and phosphorous which add to the pet’s overall health.

Typically last four to six weeks, Scout & Zoe’s chews are available in a variety of sizes to suit every breed. No animals are harmed and no violence is imposed on any elk during the gathering of the antlers.
